Amalgam Fillings

Dental amalgam is the traditional silver-coloured filling we are all familiar with.

The main drawbacks to the use of Amalgam is its poor cosmetic appearance (it is silvery black metal in colour)  and that it does contain Mercury.

Although  tooth coloured  fillings are becoming more popular, amalgam fillings are still very durable and whilst there is some concern as to its use it is still a very widely used material in the UK.

If  you do not wish to have amalgam fillings in your back teeth your options are either gold, or one of the alternative tooth coloured materials in the form of fillings or inlays. These may only be available as a private option.
